April

I want to thank once again everyone for their support throughout this year. We have been working very hard towards mastery of the Missouri Learning Standards to prepare for the upcoming testing season. The willingness of our parents to partner with us in education is unlike any other district that I have been a part of. It is truly a major piece of the success we experience here at school every day.

The MAP test for grades 3-8 will be given April 18th – April 27th.  We will post the schedule on the website in the coming days. To help your child be successful on these tests, it is important for them to get plenty of rest, be here at school on time, and eat a good breakfast every morning. We also ask that you have a conversation with your student about trying their very best. That is the message that we speak to them about here at school everyday and is a part of our Mustang Pledge. It is very impactful if they are hearing that same message at home.

Students in kindergarten, first, and second grades will be testing starting on April 19th as well. Kindergarten will take the Scholastic 1st grade readiness test and K-2 grades will take benchmark tests made from Study Island. These are not state tests but are important data collections for us at school that provide information on how well our students have progressed and mastered the curriculum taught. Also beginning on April 17th, we will begin re-screening all students in grades K-3 for the reading disability of dyslexia. This is required by Missouri state statute. Parents will receive notification of whether or not your child is at risk for dyslexia. If your child is in grades 4-8 and you would like him/her to be screened for dyslexia, please let us know. Please contact Ms. McClanahan if you have any questions or concerns.

Kindergarten registration is April 4th and 5th. If you or anyone you know has a child that will be five years old before August 1st, 2023 please call the school to schedule an appointment for registration. You must provide shot records and proof of residency at the time of registration. It is beneficial to provide your child’s birth certificate as well.

I know the school year seems to be winding down, but we still have so much we want to accomplish and several fun end of the year opportunities for our students. Remind your child to continue to work hard, have them here every single day, and finally remind them to be on their best behavior in order to participate in all of our fun end of the year activities. Thank you and it is great to be a Mustang.
