Dear Green Forest Elementary Parents and Guardians,
We are writing to inform you of necessary repairs to a sewage line at Green Forest Elementary School. These repairs are necessary and unfortunately cannot be delayed. The repairs are scheduled to take place this Saturday, October 31st and Sunday November 1st. We expect them to be completed during that time and be able to return to school without interruption on Monday. However, we want to be prepared and proactive in our communication and response in the event that the repair takes longer or is more extensive than we believe it to be at this time.
Depending on the timing and extent of the repairs, it may become necessary to use Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) days if the building cannot be operational or occupied during the repair process. We understand that any change to the school schedule can affect families, and we want to provide you with as much advance notice as possible.
At this time, we ask that you be aware of this possibility and watch for additional communication from the school regarding any schedule changes. The attached packet of work should only be completed in the event that we are unable to be in session on Monday, November 2nd. We hope to be able to decide and send notice of school on Monday no later than Sunday, November 1st by 5:00 PM. Notifications will go out earlier if a decision is able to be made earlier in order to give parents as much time as possible to make arrangements.
Student attendance on AMI days is calculated based on the amount of work that is completed upon returning to school. If your student completes half of the work, then they are counted absent for half of the day. Full attendance is only awarded for AMI days if the student completes all of the attached work. If it becomes necessary to extend the days of AMI beyond Monday, your students teacher will contact you to make necessary pick-up or delivery arrangements for future work. Using AMI days allows us to count the day as an instructional day instead of having to add days onto the end of the year as any days missed that is not due to inclement weather are required to be made up later in the year.
Our priority is the safety and well-being of our students and staff while minimizing disruptions to learning as much as possible. We appreciate your patience, flexibility, and understanding as we work through this necessary maintenance issue.
Thank you for your continued support of Green Forest Elementary School. We will share updates as more information becomes available.
Sincerely,
Green Forest Elementary School Administration
